9 songs with piano and optional unison or two-part chorus.
Personal remarks:
This is delightful collection, the first of a nine-volume series, of Warlock songs with a very interesting and informative introduction by Fred Tomlinson. It contains: Good Ale, Peter Warlock's Fancy, Twelve Oxen, The Toper's Song, One More River, Maltworms, The Cricketer's of Hambledon, Fill the Cup Philip and Jillian of Berry. Its only fault is its A5 format and tiny print demanding acute eyesight. When placed on a piano, the unfortunate singer has to peer over the pianist's shoulder who also has his or her nose only inches from the pages.
An ironic footnote that I am sure Philip Heseltine (Warlock was his pseudonym( himself would appreciate. I purchased this little gem for a miserly 40p in a second-hand bookshop. It had been remaindered twice from £5.95 to £2.50 before becoming my possession.
