Composers B | Mike Bernard (1881-1936) |
According to the Internet source given below, Mike Bernard (the name itself was the pseudonym used by one Mike Barnett) was an American pianist and composer of ragtime music. He studied with Benjamin Robertson Harney becoming an immensely popular pianist and is said to have been the resident pianist at Tony Pastor's in New York, probably the most important vaudeville venue of the era. He was the first to record solo piano music for Columbia in 1909, the piece in question being Wallie Herzer 's Everybody Twostep (1910). Highly regarded, his publisher Will Rossiter proclaimed him as the "public's favourite" and "the world's greatest ragtime player". As early as 1899 when still a teenager, he made his mark in ragtime repertoire with his The Rag-Time King: A Symphony In Rag-Time.
