As one might expect Old Heidelberg is a fine cliché-ridden umpah, umpah type march. Its form is AABBACCBB with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the CC- and BB-strains. A splendid ensemble piece, all voices having their share of the limelight. The descant and treble voices share the melody while the basses have a solo in the C-strain. Mills provides rousing lyrics for the final B-strain, bars 69-86, to whit:
Clink your glasses, drink a toast with me, Old Heidelberg, Dear Heidelberg.
We are out on a spree, drink to Old Heidelberg. Natürlich!

A tempo of 90 crotchets/min. is suggested.
Old Heidelberg was published by F.A. Mills New York.
