 The Baker of Colebrook

"The Baker of Colebrook" is one of my favourite short ballads. It's a usual tale of seduction (aristocratic lady and baker whereby the lady is the chief instigator), marital disloyalty and retribution by the cheated husband. The ballad is gently amusing and the outcome is civilised and not nearly so barbarous as Matty Groves. I first heard it sung by Roy Harris on Wally Whyton's Folk Music programme sometime in the early eighties.
