 The Game of Cards

I came across "The Game of Cards" in Songs and Dances of Englandby Liz Thomson. It has nice kind of chocolate box first line of
   "As I was a-walking one mid-summer's morning...."
evoking a very English pastoral scene a few centuries ago set perfectly with a light-hearted tune. It's of boy meets girl. Boy chats girl up. Girl acquiesces and by the fourth verse they sit down to a nice game of cards. How quaint and so very English!
Actually I don't believe a word of it and I suspect that Liz Thomson has been sanitising again.
