Pub ![]() | Nellie Dean |
How I love this "song" a real belter. It's got everything. Very few words, easy to understand, poetry in fact - "There's an old mill by the stream..." Hardly heard today but a favourite with the old time landlords. It signalled that "Time gentleman please" was not very far off. I can't remember when I first heard it, probably at my mother's knee. I certainly remember singing it with the lads of 18A mess, HMS Victorious in Commercial Road in Pompey in '59 and Sembewang (Singapore) in the early sixties. The version that I now sing can be found in 101 Pub Favourites for Buskers
