NZ ![]() | Pokarekare (A Maori Love Song) |
Of the three Maori songs which Steffi Lubrich and I learned fromSolid Gold Maori Songs, I believe this one was our favourite and it is attributed to P.H. Tomoana. It is a beautiful love song with a delightful chorus.
"E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate au i, te aroha e"
which Sam Freedman translates as:
"Dear heart of mine, I'll wait for thee. My love is thine alone to eternity"
Dear surfer, you must really listen to the fascinating version sung by Ana Hatoon the historic wave file.
